Job description

Key Responsibilities:
1. Litigation Management
Oversee and manage all active litigation cases, including preparing legal strategies, drafting documents, and attending hearings.
Represent the company in court proceedings, arbitration hearings, and other legal forums.
Develop and execute case strategies to resolve disputes effectively, with a focus on minimizing financial and reputational risks to the company.
2. Arbitration & Dispute Resolution
Handle arbitration cases related to construction contracts, vendor disputes, and other claims.
Prepare for and lead arbitration hearings, including drafting and reviewing legal briefs, evidence, and witness statements.
Explore alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to facilitate faster and less costly resolutions.
3. Contract & Claims Management
Review, negotiate, and draft contracts, agreements, and settlement documents to protect the company’s interests.
Manage claims related to construction contracts, including evaluating potential claims and advising project teams on risk mitigation.
Work closely with project managers and procurement teams to resolve contractual disputes and avoid escalations.
4. Legal Advisory & Compliance
Provide legal advice on compliance with applicable laws, industry regulations, and construction-specific standards.
Ensure that the company’s activities and procedures adhere to legal standards to mitigate potential legal liabilities.
Conduct legal audits and assessments to identify risks, ensure compliance, and implement best practices.
5. Coordination with External Counsel
Manage relationships with external law firms, including selecting and briefing counsel, and monitoring performance and billing.
Coordinate with external counsel to ensure alignment on strategy and outcomes, and review legal submissions prepared by them.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain detailed and accurate records of all litigation, arbitration, and claims-related documents.
Prepare regular reports on ongoing cases, highlighting key issues, potential risks, and progress updates for senior management.
Draft internal memos, legal briefs, and analysis to keep relevant departments informed on legal matters.
7. Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with project teams, finance, procurement, and other departments to identify legal risks and resolve issues.
Advise stakeholders on legal requirements related to contracts, labor laws, environmental laws, and other regulatory matters in construction.
Conduct training sessions to educate internal teams on legal aspects of contract management and dispute prevention.
Technical Skills:
1. Strong knowledge of construction law, contract law, and dispute resolution processes.
2. Proficiency in legal research, drafting legal documents, and managing court and arbitration proceedings.
3. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations relevant to construction (e.g., FIDIC contracts, EPC contracts).
4. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex legal issues, assess risks, and develop effective case strategies.
5. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal information clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
6. Interpersonal Skills: Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills, with a focus on collaborative problem-solving.
7. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in reviewing and drafting legal documents and case files.
8. Availability to attend court proceedings, arbitration sessions, and meetings with external counsel as required.
9. Flexibility to travel to project sites and legal forums as needed.
