Position: Legal Officer
Qualification: LLB
Experience: 5 to 10 years
Location: Mumbai


Job description

Key Responsibilities:

Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts, subcontracts, service agreements, and purchase orders. Ensure compliance with applicable laws and minimize contractual risks.
Legal Advisory: Provide expert advice on legal issues in construction, including land acquisition, environmental regulations, safety compliance, and contract administration.
Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments for construction projects, identifying potential legal and technical risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and national construction laws, including environmental regulations, labor laws, and building codes.
Dispute Resolution: Manage dispute resolution processes, including claims, arbitration, and litigation related to construction projects, delays, cost overruns, and contractual issues.
Documentation & Reporting: Prepare, maintain, and organize all legal documents, including claims, notices, regulatory filings, and project compliance records.
Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for legal issues, coordinating with project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure legal and contractual obligations are met.
Policy Development: Assist in developing internal policies and protocols for contract management, risk assessment, and compliance related to construction projects.

Requirements:

Educational Background: Bachelor\'s degree in law (LL.B) or equivalent; additional qualifications or certifications in construction law or contract management are preferred.
Experience: 4+ years of experience in a legal role within the construction industry, focusing on contract management, regulatory compliance, or dispute resolution.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction project workflows, construction standards, and relevant technical aspects.
Analytical Skills: Ability to assess complex construction contracts and translate technical construction terms into legal frameworks.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain legal issues to non-legal stakeholders in the construction industry.
Certifications (Optional): Certifications in construction law, contract management, or safety compliance (e.g., FIDIC, NEC contracts) are an advantage.

Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with international construction contracts (e.g., FIDIC contracts)
Knowledge of environmental laws and safety regulations in the construction sector
Experience with construction claims management and alternative dispute resolution (ADR)
